Westernport Water inspires the use of the right water for the job
As part of National Water Week, Westernport Water will hold a range of events to inspire people to use the right water for the job to help ensure the region remains green, more liveable and prosperous for generations to come.
Managing Director Murray Jackson said people would be able to tour homes that made the most out of captured rainwater, and tour its treatment plant to learn how high quality recycled water was produced.
“This year’s theme for Water Week is ‘Water Sources: there are more than you think’, which reflects how we all need to be smarter, more efficient and more responsible with all our water sources – including rainwater, stormwater, groundwater and recycled water – to take the pressure off precious drinking water supplies,” Mr Jackson said.
“We need to look at the big picture and encourage smart water practices as well as investment in all water sources.
“Our community has already demonstrated its commitment to working together to make greater use of alternative water sources and their good work deserves to be celebrated.
“I congratulate our new residential recycled water customers plus the Cowes Recreation Reserve, Newhaven College, Phillip Island Golf Club, as well as the Community Orchard for using the right water for the job through their sustainable water practices,” he said.
As a part of the Bass Coast Shire Council’s sustainability program, Landcare and Westernport Water are offering a ‘Future Homes Tour’ at 10am, Wednesday, 22 October, starting at Westernport Water’s Newhaven office at 2-16 Boys Home Rd.
The Community Open Day at Phillip Island Recycled Water Treatment Plant, 261 Pyramid Rock Rd, Wimbledon Heights, will run from 10am-1pm, Saturday, 25 October.
