TREE ROOTS CAUSE SEWER BLOCKAGE
Westernport Water advises the community that a sewer spill occurred at Cowes West at approximately 10.30am today as a result of a tree root blockage.
Response procedures were quickly activated and our crews have restored sewer services and undertaken a clean up.
Unfortunately, a small amount of sewerage has made its way into the stormwater system which leads to the ocean outlet behind the Cowes Caravan Park. Resources have been directed to clean up activities and our team is monitoring the impacted area.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Bass Coast Shire Council have been notified.
As a precaution to ensure public safety a small section near the stormwater outfall has been temporarily roped off. Westernport Water asks the community to avoid the area until it has been deemed safe.
