Planning for the future
The King Road Wastewater Treatment Plant (KRWWTP) currently services 10% of Westernport Water’s sewer inflows, and being an agricultural site, reuses 100% of the treated wastewater on site for irrigation.
To ensure our growing population has reliable sewerage services, we are upgrading the treated wastewater storage capacity at KRWWTP.
Sustainable sewerage treatment
Reducing our environmental impact and adapting to climate change, while keeping our services affordable and sustainable, are key customer commitments and regulatory requirements for Westernport Water.
From 2023-2024 options have been investigated for the design and construction of a recycled water wetlands storage system that provides a nature-based solution for additional storage and treatment.
Between 2025-2027, (subject to planning approval) a purpose built wetland system will be constructed, incorporating improved opportunities for public recreation and integrating Bunurong traditional values across the landscape.
