FAQ Cowes Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) Upgrade

Works will involve the installation of a new above ground stainless steel pipework with Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) arrangement, the removal of the current underground arrangement, and other necessary upgrade works to the site.

Existing underground Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV’s) are reaching the end of service life.

We’re replacing the PRV’s with products housed above ground and designed to meet future demand and be in service for the next 40 years.

There will be no interruptions to water supply.

This will be planned to avoid peak times such as the week leading up to, and following, the Labour Day weekend and the Victorian school holidays.

Works will take approximately two months to complete starting in late January 2025. Works are expected to be completed before Easter, in approximately late April 2025.

The work hours will be Monday to Friday 7am – 5pm with occasional Saturdays.

Path users nearby may experience noise and dust due to the works.

Yes, however there will be occasional minor delays when plant or equipment is being moved around the site.  Signage and qualified traffic controllers will be on site to direct path users.

We kindly ask path users to observe signage and remain alert to changing conditions around the worksite.

Public safety is a high priority. Fences and barricades will be installed during the works to prevent access to the worksite.
