Need to connect your water, sewer or recycled water?
Connect a single residential property
All new and/or existing single residential dwellings are required to obtain Westernport Water’s approval (consent to connect) prior to any alteration or new connection(s) to the water supply, sewerage and/or recycled water network.
Connect commercial property and units
Westernport Water’s standards pertain to the design and construction of sewer and water assets, as well as information on approved sewer and water strategic products, authorised contractors and technical specifications. You can apply for the connection of industrial and commercial property as well as units and private water to Westernport Water’s water supply, sewerage and/or recycled water asset(s), when internal plumbing is required.
Water Connections
To connect to our water system the following information must be provided:
- A4 scaled building plan, specifically detailing the floor plan
All applications will be processed within 10 business days from the day we receive it.
After the application has been approved your plumber can tap the water main and install the new water meter.

Recycled Water Connections
Recycled Water is available in new estates in Cowes and has been mandated for all areas that are now serviced with recycled water.
If you apply for a potable drinking water connection in these areas you are also required to connect to the recycled water system.
Sewer Connections
To connect to our sewer system the following must be provided:
- Application for Sewer Connection form – 2024-2025
- A4 scaled building plan, specifically detailing the floor plan
All applications will be processed within 10 business days from the day we receive it.
If you would like to know whether your property can be serviced via alternative means, such as a septic tank, you need to check with Bass Coast Shire Council.
