Westernport Water is commencing work to deliver water quality benefits and ensure fresh, clean drinking water for Westernport Water customers.
“Over the coming weeks, we’ll be cleaning water mains in the Phillip Island area to make sure residents are receiving the best quality drinking water,” said Murray Jackson Managing Director Westernport Water.
“To clean the water mains we need to switch water off temporarily in each street progressively as we work through each town.
“To ensure minimum inconvenience, we:
- notify residents individually by letter prior to working in their area
- work at night in areas where there are businesses
- work during the day in residential areas when people are less likely to be home.
“To clean the water mains we inject compressed air into the water pipe to propel a small volume of water at high velocity. Air and water are then ejected together with any loose deposits from a hydrant at the end of the length being cleaned,” said Murray.
Affected areas are;
- San Remo
- Newhaven
- Rhyll
- Smiths Beach
- Sunderland Bay
- Sunset Strip
- Wimbledon Heights
- San Remo
After the cleaning is complete, customers may notice the water is a little cloudy, this cloudiness is only air that will bubble out if you leave the water in an open container.
